Mature Trees Pose a Threat
Recently, we restored a major roof damage for a Highland Avenue home in Summerville. After a microburst wind swept through the area, a massive tree fell on the roof causing major damages. Luckily, through working with their insurance, we were able to seamlessly inspect the roof, temporarily tarp the roof overnight until the storms calmed, and the following day began repairs all before water damages in the attic could begin.
Summerville’s historical homes often have mature trees that can pose a threat during storms. Massive mature trees with large overhanging branches can clog gutters and cause rainwater to overflow under the eaves and into roof cavities. More often than this, large, weak tree branches can snap and pierce through rooves and cause damages in attic spaces that can occasionally go undetected.
Preventing Future Storm Damage
Prevention is the best step is protecting your home. Microbursts are unexpected weather conditions, but you can prepare your home by not only listening to weather warnings, but by being aware of the mature trees that pose the biggest “risk” to your property. Occasionally checking for weak, dead tree limbs is helpful in protecting your roof and gutters. Becoming more mindful of loose yard decorations or chairs and tables next to large glass windows.
Additionally, it is helpful to seasonally keep your roof up to code by making sure to replace any damaged or missing shingles. This better protects you against storm damage and ultimately saves money through preventing extensive damages should a storm arise.
