Water Damage From Leaking Shower In Augusta Home
The two rooms in the residential properties that report the most water damage are the kitchen and bathroom. These are the areas of the property where appliances and activities that use water occur most. When a water damage event happens, professional mitigation must begin as quickly as possible.
SERVPRO responded to a call from an Augusta homeowner with water damage coming through the ceiling from the bathroom into the kitchen. Our technicians immediately began scoping the area to determine where the water had migrated. The kitchen was unaffected by the water and only needed surface cleaning. We quickly located the source of the leak was from a shower riser, the long pipe that reaches up to the showerhead. When the shower was in use, water ran down the pipe and was coming through the floor joists and dripping through the first-floor ceiling.
Our moisture detection equipment showed moisture retention in the floor joists between the first and second floors. We used portable pumps to extract as much moisture as possible from the floor and then drilled weep holes in the ceiling to let airflow within the floor joists thoroughly dry the affected areas.
Because our technicians possess certifications in the science of Applied Structural Drying, they know how to strategically set up a room for the quickest and most complete removal of excess moisture. Air movers were positioned both below to dry the ceiling and in the bathroom to direct air within the floor joists in the area of the leak. This setup enabled for complete removal of the collected moisture and inhibited the potential for mold.
